National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with DisabilitiesThe National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID) is a national organization that plays a pivotal role in influencing the direction and development of the adapted physical education/activity field. Its mission is to promote, stimulate, and encourage legislative mandates, professional preparation, advocacy, and research in physical activity, physical education, and recreation for individuals with disabilities.
Society of Health and Physical Educators [SHAPE America]SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators serves as the voice for 200,000+ health and physical education professionals across the United States. The organization’s extensive community includes a diverse membership of health and physical educators, as well as advocates, supporters, and 50+ state affiliate organizations.
Since its founding in 1885, the organization has defined excellence in physical education. For decades, SHAPE America’s National Standards for K-12 Physical Education have served as the foundation for well-designed physical education programs across the country. Additionally, the organization helped develop and owns the National Health Education Standards.

Creating Equitable Physical Education Learning Experiences with Adaptive SportsMay, 16 2023Move United 2023 Education Conference, Louisville, KentuckyThe inclusion of adaptive sports in physical education has the potential to create learning opportunities for children with and without disabilities. This presentation aims to share curricular entry points for including adaptive sports in the general physical education curriculum to ensure equitable learning experiences for students with physical disabilities. Additionally, strategies to recognize and enhance the potential for including adaptive sports to create positive outcomes for students with and without physical disabilities will be discussed. Finally, time will be made to address the negative implications of including adaptive sports in general physical education and strategies to resolve them.

- Service Activities and Community Relations
Dr. Ravizza directs the adapted physical education teaching & learning lab for local children and youth with physical, intellectual, and neurodiverse disabilities. He also directs the adaptive sports initiative to introduce various adaptive sports to university students with and without disabilities.
