I was selected for verification, what should I do?

All Undergraduate, Graduate, & Doctoral Students must meet all eligibility requirements described here to be considered for any Title IV federal financial aid programs and need-based aid assistance from the University.

What is verification?

Verification is when the US Department of Education (ED), and/or a post-secondary institution, selects a student’s FAFSA for closer review. Institutions are required to verify the accuracy of the information provided by the student, and any FAFSA contributors, in an effort to ensure the application was completed correctly and that aid is distributed to those who are eligible. If you’re selected for verification, don’t assume you’re being accused of doing anything wrong. Some people are selected at random and others are selected due to discrepancies noted by the federal government or the school.

Do I have to comply and fill out the forms?

Yes, participation is not optional. Please note that SU is unable to confirm eligibility/disburse aid (Pell Grant, SEOG, Federal Work Study, SU grants, SU funds, certain State aid programs, and any Federal Loans) until verification is complete. Therefore, applicable funds will not be credited against your bill until all verification items have been submitted, reviewed, and verified.

How will I be notified about my selection for verification?

国产福利久久av will reach out to you by email and a “Finaid Stdnt Forms Verif Task” will be added as an initiated item on your SU GullNet “To Do List”.  You will be instructed to go to your , log in, and view all items required. We encourage students to reach out if they have any questions.

The U.S. Department of Education will also notify you of their selection on the “Next Steps” section of your "FAFSA Submission Summary" on .

What documentation will I need to submit?

Your SU FASF Portal will list the items required for review. Once you submit all required items, we will begin your review. Students should monitor their SU email accounts, as well as text messages, in case additional items are required.

How long will it take to process my verification documents?

We appreciate your patience during this manual process as it may take up to 2-4 weeks for your submitted items to be reviewed and your file review to be completed by our team. The length of time needed for review heavily depends on the time of the year items have been submitted and the volume of files that require review/processing.

If I need to submit copies of tax/income information, how can the tax filer request their Tax Return Transcript or Wage and Income Statement from the IRS?

  • For regular U.S. tax return filers - Go to to download or request a mailed Tax Return Transcript and/or a Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS.
  • For amended tax return filers – the original Tax Return Transcript or a signed 1040 Tax Return AND a signed copy or the 1040X should be submitted together.
NOTE: An IRS Tax Return Transcript WILL NOT show amended tax information.
  • For victims of tax-related identity theft - Request the appropriate year Tax Return Database View (TRDBV) transcript from the IRS by calling the IRS’s Identity Protection Specialized Unit (IPSU) at 1-800-908-4490. Please note that this process can take up to 180 days and schools are prohibited by the U.S. Department of Education from accepting alternative documentation. The IPSU will first authenticate the identity of the tax filer, who can then ask the IRS to mail them a TRDBV transcript. In addition to the Tax Return Database View transcript, the tax filer must provide a signed and dated statement indicating they were a victim of IRS tax-related identity theft and that the IRS is aware of the tax-related identity theft.
  • For Non-IRS (international or U.S. Territory) income tax filers ONLY - An individual who filed an income tax return for the applicable year with the relevant taxing authority of a U.S. territory (Guam, America Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands), commonwealth (Puerto Rico & Northern Mariana Islands), or with a foreign central government must provide the following: A signed tax transcript obtained from the relevant taxing authority of a U.S. territory, commonwealth or a foreign central government

Once you have required items, they can be securely uploaded in the student’s SU FASF Portal. Make sure that you submit a transcript for the requested tax year.
